EXCELLENT NEWS - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!!
Folks, we have some really, really good news for the club . The committee applied for a grant from the Angling Trust for fishery improvements and we got the fantastic news this week that our application was successful .
We will have a fund of around £7000 to spend improving the lakes at Mores Lane and Doddinghurst . The main focus of the improvements will be to replace, refurbish and increase the number of accessible/disabled swims and to upgrade access to these swims by creating wheelchair friendly paths .
Now, this is the important bit..........
The grant is given on the proviso that the club contributes both in terms of cash, which has been agreed, and most importantly, labour through club members attending work parties to help with the work . It's vital that you all understand that if we don't do this, the AT can ask for the money to be returned . A major problem if work has been done!
We need people to assist with general work as well as people with specialist knowledge for design and construction . Work parties will be arranged regularly throughout the year and the more we can do, the better the attendance, the quicker the improvements will be completed .
We are looking to build swims from composite instead of wood, so they'll last for 20 plus years, the paths will also mean our less able members can fish a greater selection of swims all year round. This is a fantastic opportunity to future proof the club lakes, one that was achieved through hard work by the committee and in the face of a lot of competition from around the UK.
Please message if you have specialist skills as well as access to discounts for scaffolding, aggregates etc.
Special thanks to Dave George, Roger Driscoll and Bernie Hamilton for putting the bid together and the rest of the committee for their support .
THE FIRST WORK PARTY WILL BE AT MORES LANE ON 14TH MAY . PLEASE CONTACT DAVE GEORGE ON 07885 370170.
EVEN A COUPLE OF HOURS HELP WILL BE VALUABLE .
Peg 5 has been steadily deteriorating and getting more unsafe, so 3 volunteers spent a whole day rebuilding it. Special thanks to Mick Steadman and Mark Sweetingham.
This really sums up the voluntary nature of the club and how we can only keep the lakes in good condition with willing volunteers.
The weed clearance is now complete, a special thanks to the members who helped Dave George in the run up, one of whom is a brand new member.
Many tons of weed and lilies have been removed, making the lake fishable again. We're confident that the fishing will steadily improve as we get more rain.

Maintenance to improve the fishery continues.
Problematic trees in pegs 2 & 3 have been topped, allowing easier casting and fewer brambles and roses to tangle with. Gradual thinning out of the trees around the border and opening up the canopy on the car park bank is also in hand.
Maintenance to improve the fishery continues.
Some potentially invasive weed has been removed to keep the top end clear.
A huge THANK YOU to the members who turned up. We filled in many of the worst ruts and puddles and reduced the sump-catching build up of mud and grass between the two gates.
There will be another one to complete the work.
